Dr. Biswa Ranjan Patra is a highly accomplished and internationally trained Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist, Therapeutic Endoscopist, and Expert in Third Space Endoscopy, with a distinguished reputation in advanced gastrointestinal interventions and endoscopic innovations.

He currently serves as Additional Director – Third Space Endoscopy at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, where he spearheads one of the region’s most advanced and high-volume programs in complex third space endoscopic procedures, early cancer detection, and endoscopic resections—driving clinical excellence, fostering innovation, and advancing the adoption of cutting-edge minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Patra is widely recognized for his expertise in Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) and Third Space Endoscopy, including advanced procedures such as POEM, G-POEM, Z-POEM, STER, and EFTR, with a special focus on the management of early gastrointestinal cancers and complex luminal disorders. His proficiency in image-enhanced and magnifying endoscopy enables early detection and minimally invasive treatment, significantly improving patient outcomes. He is also proficient in a wide spectrum of advanced therapeutic EUS procedures (including EUS-GJ, BD, CG and GV coiling).

He completed his DM in Medical Gastroenterology from Seth G.S. Medical College & K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai, following his MD in Internal Medicine from PGIMER & Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi, and MBBS from V.S.S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Odisha. Further strengthening his global expertise, he pursued advanced international fellowships in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) from the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO) and Endoscopic Resection & Magnifying Endoscopy at NTT Medical Centre, Tokyo, Japan.

In addition to his clinical excellence, Dr. Patra is an Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology at K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai, and a visiting consultant across leading hospitals, actively contributing to teaching, training, and advancing the field of therapeutic endoscopy.

A prolific researcher and innovator, he has authored numerous publications in reputed national and international journals, with several award-winning contributions in advanced endoscopy techniques. His work has earned him multiple first prizes at international and national conferences, and he has been consistently recognized among the Best Gastroenterologists in Mumbai by Outlook Magazine (2024, 2025, 2026).

Dr. Patra is an active member of prestigious global societies including the American College of Gastroenterology, European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Japanese Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, and World Endoscopy Organisation, reflecting his strong international presence and contribution to the field.
